Rent Receipt Template

Fill in tenant, amount, period, and payment method and print a signed-ready rent receipt. Names and amounts never leave your browser.

Fill in — the document updates live

Private by construction. The document is assembled by this page's JavaScript as you type. Names, prices, and photos never leave your machine, and the page keeps working with the network unplugged. Printing uses your browser's own print dialog — choose "Save as PDF" there to get a file.

A rent receipt is thirty seconds of paperwork that settles arguments months later: who paid, how much, for which period, by what method. Fill the fields and the receipt on the right formats itself with a totals block, an optional balance-remaining line for partial payments, and a signature line that makes it a record instead of a note. Because it is rent, the names, address, and amounts on it are exactly the data that should not sit in a template site's database — and here they cannot, because the document is assembled by JavaScript in your browser. Print two copies: the tenant's proof and your file copy.

Questions this template gets asked

Are landlords required to give rent receipts?

In many US states and many countries, yes - especially for cash payments, where a receipt is often mandatory on request. Even where it is not required, a receipt protects both sides: the tenant gets proof of payment and the landlord gets a clean ledger.

What should a rent receipt include?

Landlord and tenant names, the property address, the amount, the date received, the rental period the payment covers, and the payment method. Add a receipt number if you issue many, and a balance line if the payment was partial.

Do rent receipts matter for cash payments in particular?

Most of all. A check or bank transfer leaves its own trail; cash leaves none. A signed receipt is the only record a cash-paying tenant has, which is why several jurisdictions single cash out in their receipt rules.

How long should receipts be kept?

Tenants: for the whole tenancy plus a few years - security-deposit disputes and reference checks reach back. Landlords: as long as your tax records, since rent receipts substantiate rental income.

Can I print a rent receipt without signing up for anything?

Yes. No account, no watermark, no PDF paywall. The receipt builds in your browser as you type and prints from your browser's own dialog - choose Save as PDF there for a file.
