Do gift certificates legally expire?
Rules differ sharply. US federal law requires at least five years for bank-issued gift cards, several US states ban expiry on gift certificates outright, and other countries have their own floors. Check your local rule before printing a short expiry - the expiry field is optional for exactly this reason.
Why number the certificates?
The number is your ledger. Record it with the value and date when you issue, cross it off when it is redeemed, and duplicate or forged certificates stop being a problem. Numbering is the difference between a certificate program and a stack of coupons.
Value or service - which should I write?
Either works. A dollar amount is flexible for the recipient; a named service (“one 60-minute session”) is easier for you to cost and often feels more like a gift. The value field takes free text so both print correctly.
What paper should I print on?
Card stock, 80-100 lb, prints best - the certificate is laid out for Letter/A4 and centered. Plain paper works for email-and-print gifting; choose Save as PDF in the print dialog to send it digitally.
