Podcast Script Template

A podcast episode script with cold open, intro, segments, ad break, and outro. Fill it in, print it or save as PDF. Your script stays in your browser.

Fill in — the document updates live

Private by construction. The document is assembled by this page's JavaScript as you type. Names, prices, and photos never leave your machine, and the page keeps working with the network unplugged. Printing uses your browser's own print dialog — choose "Save as PDF" there to get a file.

The structure here is the one most interview and solo shows converge on: a cold open pulled from the episode's best moment, a short intro over music, two main segments, an ad break in the middle, and an outro that actually asks for the follow. The form nudges you toward the discipline that makes episodes tighter — script the cold open and the calls to action word for word, keep segment notes as bullets so you talk rather than read. Print the sheet and put it next to the microphone. Drafts, sponsor copy, and guest names stay in your browser; nothing you type here is uploaded anywhere.

Questions this template gets asked

Should a podcast be fully scripted or just outlined?

Both, in different places. Scripting the cold open, intro, and outro verbatim removes the fumbling where listeners decide whether to stay; bulleting the middle keeps conversation natural. Fully-read episodes sound read - the hybrid this template encodes is the working standard.

How long is a podcast script in words?

Spoken delivery runs around 130-150 words per minute, so a fully-scripted 35-minute episode would be roughly 5,000 words. With bulleted middle segments, the written script is far shorter - the word math matters mainly for the parts you script verbatim.

What is a cold open and why put it first?

A cold open is 15-30 seconds of the episode's most interesting moment, played before any music or introduction. Podcast apps surface the first seconds in previews, and listeners bail early - the cold open spends your best material where the bailing happens.

Where should the ad break go?

Mid-roll, after the audience is invested - typically a third to halfway in. This template places it between the two main segments; a natural topic boundary makes the interruption feel structural instead of jarring.

Is this podcast script template free, with no sign-up?

Yes. No account, no email, no locked download - the script sheet builds in your browser and prints from it. Unreleased episode drafts and sponsor copy stay on your machine.
